Generally, it is better to do paranormal investigations in subdued lighting...IMHO.
Ghosts are not limited to night-time-only hours - I once saw one in broad noon sunlight that appeared so solid, i didnt notice at first it was a ghost -until it disappeared. Sighting type - ####ing rare!
True, ones senses are generally more acute at night, conversely, imagination may be more suggestable.
I once attended a 'paranormal group' that investigated a local pub - and as the only medium present got landed with communing with the spirits. Other than the ghosts being highly disturbed by the invasion of camera wielding thrillseekers, once in trance, it HURT when someone threw the lightswitch on.
It is generally easier to gather ether/spiritual energy in low light, building up to contact... Strong energies (Light), noise, electrical interference, strong emotions (fear, negativity, doubt) may poison the atmosphere making contact difficult... and a 'null score' on the investigation
Unfortunately, entertainment TV is to blame for as many misconceptions as it is for educating people and opening genuine interest.
If investigating, it is usual to go round with lights on first (avoiding trips, falls etc.) and get a sense of a place, and then later, settle somewhere promising in the dark and quiet.
If you have ever done 'rescue work' (releasing earthbound spirits) it can be overwhelmingly tiring and emotional... some spirits seem to need their plight, pain or passing to be recognised; in the case of spirit that appeared to be a young boy, the lad was waiting for his mother to collect him 'to go to heaven'... Another spirit seemed not to have realised he was dead.
There are not any hard and fast rules other than common sense, respect, being grounded...and in the case of 'emergency' - several techniques for disengaging from 'dark entities',protection and clearance are a good idea -plus an off-site back-up team into remote intervention can be a handy tool if you dont know how deep the water may be.
... the whole area of paranormal investigation is a large topic. Generally, though, I prefer to seance in the dark - and not as entertainment.
Whatever you find works best for you, safely, follow
