I put this topic under here as it is ibviously highly involved with water ^^

So sea witchery is often regarded as grey magick. Many pagans believe that magick has no colour, it is neither black nor white (or in fact both). Personally for me it is both, or neither as their is balance in life - and colour is an abstract idea anyway - however, I do think their is black magick as if you cast a spell for malevolent purposes it simply cannot be 'light' magick can it?

So, sea witchery is called grey magick as it handles the chaotic forces of nature, the sea and weather. Woring with chaos is not part of a 'light' path and it isn't necessarily evil either. So hence grey.

But if we say that nature is both light and dark, and both are necessary then why does sea magick have to be labeled any differently? I think that so long as the witch does not try to be deliberately malicious then her magick should not be labeled any differently form another witch.

What are your views on sea wicthery?

Grin I think Sea witchery is a wonderful type of magic Grin
I also think people get too hung up on labels (myself included) .... generally, I view anything that applies force in whatever form to any being is 'Black' magic - which includes sending healing that is not asked for
[ I always ask for any distant healing to be offered and held until it be needed for that person or thing if it is in their highest good and in harmony with their being, or return it; also that it be given in form and manner peaceful and acceptable for the intended recipient]

I dont know how you view 'sea witchery' or whether it is what i would see as 'sea magic',though living on the coast, i LOVE the sea, and magic to do with it.
True, the sea breeds storms -especially in hot weather, and storms bring rain, answering the prayers of thirsting roots and dry crops; wind, rain, the endless tides, dance of Moon and planet weave together through the fabric of Sea magic...

Can anything so natural, formed of the very laws of Nature, part Chaos, part Order, be of any colour other than clear, pure Magic?  Perhaps it is how we seek to channel such energy that makes it 'white' or 'black' - or maybe 'grey' as it is neutral, bound only by its own laws yet now holding the touch of a person??

The Sea can give, but it also takes - the 'grey widowmaker' of poetry; so yes, perhaps it is best described as grey, that we never forget that she can never be tamed, and wild, is worthy of our respect.

So, when I call a storm, it is response to the Earths' need, the dying trees and withered grass - I send, and ask, out to sea, on wind, on briny breeze, and ask; for some rain, for the blessing of a storm, for rain kissed crops not broken or torn by torrent....but always in balance, always if it is the will of Nature to answer; never to demand.

Thank you for reminding me... may you walk in beauty, and the seas kind blessing grace your steps

I absolutely agree Smiley
I think sea magick is not 'black' 'white' or 'grey' but it is the intent of the witch that the colour is formed - but the colour sin't in the magick but the heart.

I think sea magick is fantastic and I really want to start practicing it fully - my (fingers crossed for results) university is right on the beach so it would be perfect.

Here is a thought for you....

I have heard that in the Himalayas, and other tall mountain ridges, the sounds of the surf can be heard crashing against the continental plates.... more, that also the mountains in many places, were once seabed, with the fossils sleeping in crystal forms, and that the salt in our blood, is like that in the sea; the sound of our blood like waves when a shell is lifted to the ear

we are never far from the Sea ;-)

may you enjoy university....and the beach

Yeah that is lovely Smiley I did hear that our actual body fluids are very close to that of sea water and that the mountains were once underwater. It is quite incredible.

First I love your post, you are very knowledgeable and I have enjoyed the posts I have read by you very much. Well done.

I too, love the ocean, and I wish that I lived on the coast. However, we are talking about moving to Florida.

When I picture the sea I see it in two forms in my mind, however, one is stronger than the other. I see it either in the beautiful clear blues and greens of the tropical waters or the dark, foggy and 'gray' of the non tropical waters. I happen to currently live where there is non tropical waters. I agree that things are over labeled but I do see where they are coming from with the gray for sea witchery.

Just my observations.Smiley Oh, and I fully agree that the ocean/ seas can never be fully tamed as you said, Brock.
